DOS AND DON’TS of Master Bathroom Design

THE ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN AUTHORITY AND COLUMNIST OF HOME RENOVATION MAGAZINE
~ Lucia, Kassik & Monday, Inc

MASTER BATH DESIGN HAS BEEN GREATLY simplified in the 2000's. We don't seem to be designing the excessively large and opulent bathrooms that were so popular in the 1990's. Many of the designs we create today are based on flexibility, sensibility and aging-in-place concepts.

Home owners seem to have one of two preferences; either a bath that is open to the sleeping room or it is completely closed off so that one may still sleep while the other bathes and dresses.

FLORIDA STYLE

Do you know your ARCHITECTURAL STYLES?

INSPIRED BY THE RENAISSANCE and the pride of our past, the classic beauty of Georgian Revival design is one of the most appealing and prominent residential styles in America, especially here in the South. The Centennial celebration of 1876 reminded Americans of their Colonial heritage and the result was a resurgence of interest in the Colonial architecture of Georgian and Federal homes between 1880 and 1950.
Earlier examples of Georgian Revival architecture were not often historically correct—they were more “free interpretations” of the style offering some inspired features that were often not historically accurate in their form and detail. During the first decade of the 20th century, Colonial Revival fashion was characterized by correct proportions and particulars. This was encouraged through widespread printing & dissemination of photographs in books and or periodicals. With this new development, homes built between 1915 & 1935 reflect these influences by more closely resembling Georgia Revival prototypes
